Environmental Arts and Humanities minor advising sheet

Are you looking to explore the interrelationship between humans and the environment? Ohio State now offers a NEW minor in Environmental Arts & Humanities (EAH) to better understand how humanity shapes, and is shaped by, the environment they are in.

EAH is an interdisciplinary field of study that combines methods and insights from the arts and humanities to explore the interrelationships between humans and their environments. It teaches students how to answer questions of value, representation, culture, and epistemology related to sustainability and environmental knowledge and reflect critically about the environment and the role of humans as citizens, consumers, and environmental actors in a complex, interconnected world.

The minor in Environmental Arts & Humanities requires 12 credit hours of coursework. Students must choose a minimum of four courses from at least three different academic units and may include up to three credit hours of variable credit courses in independent research/fieldwork or internship experience with the approval of the EAH Steering Committee.

“This minor allows students to approach environmental problems from as many different angles as possible, opening their eyes to lenses that have really been missing from the traditional perspective on these issues,” said Matthew Birkhold, the program's current faculty director.

Please contact Associate Professor Matthew Birkhold with any questions about the minor.
