Zero Waste Engagement

Ohio State has a robust Zero Waste program, having increased its landfill diversion rate from under 30% in 2015 to over 40% in 2025. This work has included increasing Zero Waste event programming, increasing food waste and organic waste collection for composting and expanding the items that are recyclable. It has also included a variety of faculty and student led efforts to avoid waste generation, conduct peer-to-peer education and conduct living labs.

There are numerous ongoing Zero Waste efforts occurring across Ohio State's campuses. From football game days, to conferences and meetings to everyday collection and dropoff opportunities, there are many ways to learn about and engage on this topic.

For general information about Ohio State's Zero Waste programming and learn how you can host a Zero Waste event on campus, see Facilities Operations and Development for more.

To learn how to avoid creating food-related waste on the Columbus campus, see Dining Service's programs for meetings and gatherings.
