About Maria
Dr. Conroy is Associate Faculty Director of Education at the Sustainability Institute and Professor of City & Regional Planning. Her work explores how communities plan for sustainable development, focusing on the participation, evaluation, and governance processes that shape outcomes in practice. She is interested in examining why visions for sustainability diverge from the policies and practices intended to realize them. An original Sustainability Education & Learning Committee (SELC) member, she became curious about not only the content of teaching sustainability but also how we teach sustainability. That led her down the sustainability pedagogy rabbit hole of key competencies and six dimensions, to serving as SELC's Pedagogy Lead. She welcomes the opportunity to share the adventure with faculty interested in advancing sustainability education. Dr. Conroy enjoys visiting any and all national parks, seeing the successful adulting of her two Buckeye engineering sons, and passing Dr. Bielicki in whatever running race they happen to be in together.
