About Brian

Brian Cultice is a Sustainability Science Researcher at SI with a Ph.D in Agricultural, Environmental, and Development Economics from The Ohio State University. He has worked at the congruence of environmental and energy policy through multiple roles. Prior to graduate school, he evaluated the efficacy of more sustainable, alternative sources of energy for public and private transportation fleets at Clean Fuels Ohio, a U.S. Department of Energy Clean Cities and Communities coalition member organization. His graduate research focused on examining how factors such as trade and climate change impact local ecosystem service provision in the Great Lakes region. Prior to working at SI, Brian was at the U.S. Energy Information Association (EIA) coordinating Project BlueSky, the EIA initiative to develop open source, next-generation modeling systems. There, he gained project planning experience and worked to bridge gaps between modeling teams. This entailed the continual translation of complex data and modeling tasks both within EIA, but also to the broader public in order to facilitate a community of developers and users around the new BlueSky modeling platforms. Brian is a lifelong Ohioan, originally from Springfield, Ohio, and enjoys coffee-shop hopping, reading, hot takes about NBA basketball, and weight-lifting.
