Each year the Research and Innovation Showcase celebrates the collective impact of research and creative inquiry at Ohio State and beyond by recognizing talented Buckeye innovators and their discoveries. One highlight of the event each year are the spotlight speakers — researchers sharing their passions and why they do what they do. Although the event could not take place due to COVID-19, the spotlight speakers are still sharing their perspectives through virtual talks.

Callia Tellez, a spring graduate in the School of Environment and Natural Resources, created her talk: Conservation from the local level up: a lesson from the farmers of the Great Lakes Basin. Her talk shares that solving our environmental crises requires collective effort. Tellez was involved in research efforts as an undergraduate student, which contributed to her interest in water quality in the Great Lakes region and the creation of an early warning system for harmful algal blooms.
