Sensors and Data

A COLLABORATION WITH OHIO STATE'S
TRANSLATIONAL DATA ANALYTICS INSTITUTE

Leader: Christopher Ball

Scope

This group operates at the intersection of sensor technology, data analytics, and relevant sustainability applications to help position OSU as a leader in this area.

  • Sensor Technology: OSU has strong capabilities in engineering and science disciplines to develop novel sensor technologies that can address emerging needs in sustainability applications

  • Data Analytics: OSU, through the Translational Data Analytics Institute, has begun the process to identify key strengths and capabilities as well as opportunities of interest to data scientists

  • Sustainability Applications: OSU has many leading research programs that address climate change, pollution, precision agriculture, industrial efficiency, and other applications that align generally with sustainability needs.

Goals

Over the course of the 2021-22 academic year, this ERG will meet the following objectives:

  • Establish a roster of members from across the university; we are particularly seeking collaborators from the Colleges of Engineering; Arts & Sciences; and Food, Agriculture, and Environmental Sciences.

  • Find intersections among members research interests and known opportunities on the horizon.

  • Identify needs and gaps within the sustainability application space that can be addressed with emerging sensor and data analytics technology.

  • Identify funding opportunities that coincide with OSU’s strengths and that address the identified needs/gaps.

  • Develop a plan to produce targeted, interdisciplinary proposals to relevant funding agencies.

  • Establish at least one proposal team and initiate proposal development.
