Increasing Ecosystem Services at The Ohio State University

Date

The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center Green Team is sponsoring this webinar about increasing ecosystem services, which are benefits that society receives from the natural environment, at Ohio State. In its sustainability goals, the university aims to increase campus ecosystem services by 60 percentage points by 2025.

The webinar guest speaker is Andrew Neil, a GIS Analyst with Facilities Information Technology Services (FITS) within the university's Planning, Architecture and Real Estate (PARE) department. His work focuses on using Geographic Information System (GIS) technology to manage natural resources for university lands. Through this work he has developed and managed the university’s Ecosystem Services Sustainability Goal which he will describe today. He is also a member of the university’s Tree Advisory Committee and the Resource Stewardship Working Group.

Neil earned a master’s degree in environmental science and management from the University of Rhode Island where he focused on spatial analysis of coastal ecosystems. Before coming to Ohio State, he worked with the National Park Service to develop methods for the collection of high-accuracy elevation data in salt marsh habitats and to model the impacts of sea level rise on coastal parks.
