Assistant Professor Andre Carrel has received a five-year Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) award from the National Science Foundation (NSF). The $655,000 grant will support his research on urban travel behavior with the goal of incorporating a richer understanding of behavioral dynamics and long-term lifestyle shifts in traveler choice models.

An analysis of databases of standardized citation metrics across all scientific disciplines recently published in PLoS Biology reveals Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Professor Bharat Bhushan ranks 440th worldwide for career-long citation and second in the field of mechanical engineering based on impact.

Aylin Yener received the 2020 IEEE CTTC Technical Achievement Award for her contributions to physical layer security and energy harvesting communications systems.

Four faculty members in the Ohio State College of Arts and Sciences have been named on the annual Highly Cited Researchers 2020 list from Clarivate. The list identifies researchers who demonstrated significant influence in their chosen field or fields through the publication of multiple highly cited papers during the last decade. Their names are drawn from the publications that rank in the top 1% by citations for field and publication year in Clarivate’s Web of Science citation index.

Judit Puskas (FAES) is a newly elected Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI). 

Dean-designate Ayanna Howard, currently a professor at Georgia Institute of Technology, and Professors Ramteen Sioshansi, Jin Wang, Xiaorui Wang and Dong Xuan were honored with elevation to IEEE Fellow. IEEE Fellow is a distinction reserved for select IEEE members whose extraordinary accomplishments in any of the IEEE fields of interest are deemed fitting of this prestigious grade elevation. In total, 32 active Ohio State engineering faculty members are IEEE Fellows, including President Kristina M. Johnson.  

Rattan Lal, Distinguished University Professor of soil science in the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES), received an Arrell Global Food Innovation Award.

On Nov. 4, Gray, who is an associate professor of aquatic physiological biology in the CFAES School of Environment and Natural Resources (SENR), was named a winner of the Early Career Teacher Award from the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities. The national award goes to new teachers in higher education—ones with no more than seven consecutive years of experience—who demonstrate “a commitment to a career in teaching” and who exhibit “meritorious teaching.”
